Welcome to Real Story. Many people complain about shortage of money everyday, including me, when we still can make some money, trying to live a better life. But probably not many can understand how poor can be that “poor”, as we haven’t been through that kind of misery in life yet. 29- year–old Wang Wei works in a Social Security Bureau in Liaoning, China, and she has been working for more than five years. At the beginning of this March, she was asked to work part-time in a poor village in the western Liaoning, to help the poor families to be better-off. The village is called “Yushudi”, which means “under the tree”, with many villagers still living in mud and straw houses, wait, this kind of house is not what you can imagine: eco-friendly, very natural…no, none of that to the villagers, they are just ok shelters, and when it’s bad weather, it won’t be nice at all. Anyway, when she was there the first time, she was greatly shocked at what she saw: a 70-year-old man living with his old wife in a mud house which belonged to his neighbor, and his own house had collapsed. He had no money to build a new one, neither did his children nor the village government. She felt her job was tough, really difficult.

Her team came up with an idea: “teach them how to fish, so they will eat more fish later”, as the old saying goes. They gave the villagers some money then they realized this old saying, very soon they would be hungry again, so how to help them out? They are still trying to find a solution. During this time she tried to help, she was so much impressed by a wechat message one day. It was an activity called “my little wish”, trying to collect people’s help for the village children. On one list it was written by a child: “My wish is to get a new school bag, a new one, instead of an old one with many patches. ” As Wang got to know more, to get a new school bag for these children is like a dream that is very difficult to come true. The next week she found the contact man and donated ten sets of school things to these children, including school bags, without patches.

That’s Wang Wei’s story and I hope by now her team has found a way to get those villagers stronger on their own feet, and those children already got her school bags, with smiles. I believe whatever she does to the village, or how she does it to make a difference, the children who got her school bags will smile longer, all because of her.
