People always talk about passion at work, and it’s also easier to just talk. When it comes to life problems, family and bad weather, keeping a passion is getting harder, especially in teaching jobs. I had some English teaching classes for kids years ago, and at that time I never took it so serious because I saw students come and go, there were so many English teachers for children, maybe they wouldn’t care about “who was their teacher?”  A friend called Rebecca Qiu told me her story days ago, which made me think about passion at work again. The following was told by her:

I never decided that I must speak better English. For me, English is like a song-when your tone is right, you just can feel it, and when you sing out of key, you can also feel it. To get it right, of course, you have to listen more. I chose to be a teacher because I like English and kids, what a combo!

In my 6 years’ of teaching, there is one thing staying in my mind every day that I can hardly forget. During one summer vacation, one of my students was hit by a car. It was a pretty serious accident: his brain was badly injured. The next day, I told the rest of my students to remind them of being careful when crossing the street, which was my main purpose of telling them the sad news. Then everybody knew the sad news about the boy, and some parents who were in the classroom even cried when they heard it.

48 days passed since the accident happened, on the 49th day, the boy woke up in hospital bed! I told my class about him, they all cheered up with joy and relief. The parents sitting behind the classroom cried again, in happy tears. This is partly why I call my students “my kids”, we are like one big family, and everyone loves each other. I love every one of them.
