天野喜孝参与《最终幻想》的任务为创作插图、角色和怪物设计,至于剧本、命名以及英雄的传记方面皆由游戏公司产出。


“坂口会写出每个角色和怪物精确的设计要求。比如我会得到这样的指示:‘需要一个皮肤坚硬,头上有角的四足怪物。’于是我想:‘这是一只犀牛!’这种工作方式很有趣,我很喜欢这种文字出现在插图之前的工作方式。我并不知道坂口写这些要求时在想什么,而完全以自己的方式诠释他的想法,同时还要尽量避免受到已经完成的其他设计部分的影响。”   


Character Design

Yoshitaka Amano’s duty with the Final Fantasy series is to create illustrations as well as design characters and monsters. The game studio is responsible for scripts, naming, and heroes’ biographies.

“Sakaguchi Hironobu would write down detailed design requirements about each character and monster. For example, I would be told something like this: ‘We need a horned, four-legged monster with hardened skin.’ Then I’d think, well, it’d be a rhino. The work was fun. I like reading the words of description before start drawing. Although I didn’t know Sakaguchi-san’s thoughts when providing the written description, I interpret the words on my own. When doing this, I was trying to not be influenced by existing designs as well.”
